Entitled Born to Run, after arguably the singer’s most iconic song, the book has been seven years in the writing and will be published on September 27.

Springsteen began privately writing the autobiography after performing at the Super Bowl’s halftime show in 2009. It chronicles his entire career with particular emphasis on his troubled childhood in New Jersey.

The 66-year-old, known as The Boss to his fans, said: “Writing about yourself is a funny business. But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I’ve tried to do this.”

Publishers Simon & Schuster said: “With disarming candour, he also tells for the first time the story of the personal struggles that inspired his best work, and shows us why the song “Born to Run” reveals more than we previously realised.”

Springsteen has had a career spanning nearly half a century and has sold in excess of 120 million albums, garnering nine Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award in the process.

Born to Run remains one of the most celebrated records of all time and the artist continues to tour with his long-standing backing band the E Street Band to this day.
