Building work to start on better medical centre

CONSTRUCTION work is about to begin on a new medical centre in Sheffield.

East Bank Medical Centre in Arbourthorne, which is being built at a cost of 2.2m and will have 14 consulting rooms, is to replace the existing and much smaller Northern Avenue surgery.

Sharon Turner, practice manager at the Northern Avenue surgery, which is part of Central Sheffield GP Consortium, said: "This is great news for patients. It means they can receive treatment in a first-class environment, which is accessible and in the heart of the local community.

"At the moment we are a little off the beaten track and we struggle to accommodate all of the services we would like to offer to out patients.

"Moving to a site on a main road and expanding to a two-storey building with space to accommodate a variety of services will offer fantastic health-improvement benefits to the neighbourhood."
