Building work under way at hospice

WORK has started after 10 years of fundraising for a much-needed hospice and respite centre for children and their families in Huddersfield.

A turf cutting ceremony took place yesterday at building contractors, Marshall's site in Brackenhall on behalf of the Forget Me Not Trust.

John Marshall, a director, said everyone from his organisation, volunteers, staff, supporters and trustees were delighted to see building work start.

The building will be home to care services including a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool and soft play area.

Mr Marshall said: "We are delighted to be involved in such an important project, and we can't wait to get started. The dreams and vision of the trustees shall now be transformed into reality and we are all hugely supportive of the extremely good and worthy facility.

"The project has been designed and shall be built to the highest standard, with due consideration to the environment and sustainability.''

Geoff Firth, President of the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, said: ''I feel very privileged to be asked to perform this duty.''
