Bullying pensioner slapped with ASBO

A PENSIONER has been slapped with an ASBO after a seven-year campaign against his neighbours.

Robert Cain, 70, “relentlessly bullied” neighbours, throwing eggs in their driveways, banging a dustbin lid, loudly for an hour at a time, and placing items in his window to mock them. He sprayed one neighbour with a hosepipe and tied dolls of witches to lampposts.

The problems started when Cain, of Wembley Park Avenue, Hull, accused his next-door neighbours of throwing cigarette butts into his garden.

PCSO Danielle Calvert said Cain, whose outbursts were filmed after residents installed CCTV, had been a “constant nuisance”. She added: “They may seem relatively minor things individually but this was happening on a daily basis for years.”

A neighbour who didn’t want to be identified, said: “It was a lovely, peaceful place to live until Bob moved in. It has been four years of absolute hell. Me and my wife were quite friendly with the couple who lived next door and so Bob started causing trouble with us.

“Almost every single day since then he has shouted abuse at me and my wife. It’s just an onslaught of swearing and abuse. If he’s not swearing at us, he mimics us. He copies what we say and mimics how we walk. He also follows us down the street and comes and stands outside our house and swears. He tries everything he can to provoke us, Once he even threw paint on our drive, which we had to clean off.

“It got so bad that me and my wife nearly split up from the stress it put on our marriage. We didn’t want to walk down the street or go in our garden and it was very distressing.”

Cain was given a three-year order by Hull magistrates. If he breaches it he could be arrested.
