Burglar back behind bars for car raids within weeks of leaving prison

A BURGLAR had only been out of prison a few weeks before he broke into two homes and, using car keys stolen from inside, drove away three cars, a court heard.

Daniel Schofield was still on licence from his previous sentence also for burglaries, when he struck last December, first at a house in Chatsworth Mews, Morley, Leeds, and then four days later at an address in Hill Top Grove, Wakefield.

Joanna Butler-Savage prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court yesterday that in the first offence a couple went to bed at around 2.30am after returning from a party. They got up the next morning to find items missing including a handbag, credit cards and Leeds United season tickets. The intruder had also driven off in their Audi car.

The next family targeted were also asleep upstairs when Schofield got in and stole a television as well as the keys to two vehicles, a Mercedes and another Audi. The two Audi vehicles were subsequently found parked near an address in Sykes Close, Tingley, Leeds, allegedly used by Schofield, although he denied the offences at that time, only later accepting responsibility.

Schofield, 28, was jailed for three years after admitting the burglaries and taking three vehicles without consent. He was also banned from driving for three years.
