Burglars smashed through breeze blocks to break into North Yorkshire outbuildings

Police in North Yorkshire are warning residents in rural areas to check their security after burglars smashed through breeze blocks to break into outbuildings.

It follows a number of burglaries carried out in a similar way in the south of Selby District this week.

Over the last four days, two outbuildings in the area of Little Heck and Hensall have been broken into with the same, distinctive modus operandi.

The break-ins took place between Monday and Wednesday.

On both occasions offenders smashed through breeze blocks - using a sledge hammer or similar tool - to gain entry to the buildings.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incidents to contact them on 101, quoting reference numbers 12170080048 or 12170079428.

A spokeswoman said: "Patrols have been stepped up in the affected areas, and police are asking rural residents to be vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and check security arrangements, including signage, CCTV and other crime prevention measures."
