Bus driver accused over 'terrorist' outburst quits

A BUS driver who was arrested over allegations he left a passenger in tears by calling her an Islamic terrorist and accusing her of putting a bomb on his bus has resigned from his job.

The man was initially "removed from duty" by his employer First Bus which said it would carry out an internal inquiry following the allegations last month.

A First Bus spokesman said yesterday: "The man offered his resignation and we accepted that."

Passenger Hatice McGraffin, who was born in Turkey, made a complaint to police after the alleged incident on a First bus in West Yorkshire last month.

She said she boarded the bus in Otley and claimed the driver began his tirade when she ignored his efforts to talk to her.

At the time a police spokesman said a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racial or religiously aggravated harassment and had been bailed pending further enquiries.
