Business event aims to find success recipe for more regional food firms

BUSINESSES looking for a recipe for success are being invited to the first of a series of events designed to raise the profile of local food.

Around 40 companies – from a new business at Wetwang looking to sell jam and chutneys to a tearoom at Raywell – have already signed up for the session next Tuesday at Tickton Grange.

Organisers East Riding of Yorkshire Local Food Network (ERoYLFN) is managed by a steering group whose aim is to promote the wide range of food and drink available in East Yorkshire for the benefit of local food businesses and communities.

The event aims to give B&Bs and restaurants, specialist food retailers and organisers of local food markets and festivals, an opportunity to network, share successes and experiences and find out how sourcing and promoting local food and drink can give businesses a competitive edge.

Keynote speaker, Denise Walton, vice-chair of the Scottish Borders Food Network, who farms close to the Berwickshire coast, will talk about her success in the Scottish Borders.

The network has £94,000 funding from Defra and the EU to run mobile demonstration kitchens, workshops and other initiatives over the next 18 months.

David Nowell, food and beverage executive, Beverley Tickton Grange, and acting chair, East Riding of Yorkshire Local Food Network, said: “We are embarking on an exciting new chapter in the development of the local food network and I would urge businesses to come along and benefit from being a part of it.”
