Business park gets planning support

Councillors have given their blessing to a new business park on the site of the former Airfix factory.

The former Humbrol site on Hedon Road will be developed for 13 industrial units and spaces for over 200 cars and 23 heavy lorries, following a unanimous planning committee decision yesterday.

Developers say they are in talks with an overseas multi-national company over taking on the warehouse at the front of the site, which is to be known as the Marfleet Environmental Technology Park.

However they are still waiting for sign-off on "absolutely crucial" 4.4m funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

Paul Dixon, from Ispace, said the process had almost ground to a halt in the last couple of months since the announcement that Yorkshire Forward was to be axed.

He said: "We are still waiting for final sign off. If we get it by November 30 we can be sure that we can get contractors on site early in the New Year, that's more contractors' jobs and jobs for the local economy."

The site, which was famous for its Airfix models, closed four years ago.
