Business prospects set for boost with extra backing from council

Plans are being drawn up to streamline support services for York's major employers in the hope of expanding existing enterprise as well as bringing in more business to the city.

The move follows the reform of the York Economic Partnership and establishing the city's business forum, which is seen as a key means of allowing the private sector to work closely with the Council.

Those behind the plans hope to market the city's burgeoning science and technology sector and also bring forward the development of major sites through attracting new occupants, such as relocated Government departments.

The Council's executive is due to meet on Tuesday next week.

Then, senior councillors will be asked to approve proposals for a dedicated "resource in the authority's economic development team which will take responsibility for supporting major employers".

All 94 major employers with registered offices in North Yorkshire will qualify for the "key account management" scheme of which 32 are based in the city of York.
