Businesses support carnival once more

Community businesses in a North Yorkshire market town are again coming together to support a local tradition with a history of over a quarter of a century.

Families from all over the North are expected to be out in force on Sunday as Northallerton carnival gets into swing to benefit local good causes and boost tourism.

Northallerton Carnival has been taking place in the town for over 25 years, raising money for a range of local charities and attracting hundreds of people from North Yorkshire and the Tees Valley.

This year's event is again by sponsored by local firms led by Simon Bailes Peugeot, a leading business and community supporter in the town, which is funding the marketing and publicity activities, including radio adverts, flyers and leaflet drops.

Highlights include a funfair, street entertainment from clowns, belly dancers, live bands and stilt walkers, charity stalls and a bed push.

The High Street is closed for the event and there will also be a stage providing family entertainment throughout the afternoon, Simon Bailes said.

He continued: "Northallerton Carnival is a real community event and a great example of why it is so great to live and work in North Yorkshire.

"Hundreds of people come together, enjoy a great day out and raise much-needed funds for local charities.

"That's why it is so important that local businesses show their support and get involved however they can."

Carnival chairman Coun David Blades added: "Now in its fifth year on the high street, the carnival has become a really well attended annual community event attracting people from across the region.

"Thanks to our generous sponsors Simon Bailes Peugeot, Grand Central Railways and North Yorkshire Timber, the carnival continues to grow and develop as a great fun, family day out not to be missed."

The carnival takes place between 12-5pm on Sunday along Northallerton High Street.
