Businesses urged to forge ties with US

Yorkshire businesses will be urged to improve trade with the US at a major seminar.

‘Doing Business in America’ will look at how Yorkshire firms can take advantage of Virginia’s plans to become one of the leading manufacturers of wind farm equipment on the US east coast.

Lindsay West, a director at World Trade Hull and Humber said: “The American offshore sector seems likely to seek European expertise to help develop its clean energy programme and we have the experience and knowledge.

“The seminar will provide crucial information and contacts for businesses interested in expanding into this developing marketplace.”

Mark Robson, Regional Director for UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) Yorkshire said: “It will help local businesses because the US is the largest market for the Yorkshire region. It’s a good opportunity to look there.”

The free event is being held by Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance (HREDA) from Virginia, Team Humber Marine Alliance and UKTI.

Amy Parkhurst, director of Virginia Offshore Wind Coalition and HREDA will be a guest speaker alongside Preston Wilhelm, senior business development manager at Chesapeake Department of Economic Development and Aran Coker, vice president of sales, at Astute Electronics based in Suffolk, Virginia.
