Busy weekend of sport in store for seaside resort

THREE major national events will make Bridlington the “resort for sport” this weekend.

The UK Windsurfing Championship and the Zapcat Grand Prix, will see competitors race along the North and South beaches while the more sedate International UK Open Footgolf Championship takes place at Bridlington Links Golf Club.

Footgolf – which is played according to the same rules as golf and uses the player’s skill to kick a football into a hole in the least number of shots possible – only arrived in the UK last year.

It will be the first offering a
cash prize and has attracted entrants from Holland, Hungary, Belgium, Italy and even Argentina.

Spectators are welcome to watch any of the events free of charge – including the Zapcat Grand Prix, which will see small speedboats racing close to the shoreline and promenade.

Kieran Lawry from East Yorkshire Events said: “It is a real coup for us to bring such top-class events to Bridlington, but to have three across one weekend is just unbelievable.

“There will be something of interest for everyone, whether you are a visitor or resident, and three events are nicely linked up on our short stretch of coast line by the town’s major visitor attractions of The Spa Bridlington, Leisure World and Sewerby Hall and Gardens. We are really looking forward to welcoming the action-packed Zap Cat Grand Prix for the first time whilst the Footgolf will be a huge event, with entrants from as far away as Argentina participating, and will be filmed by TransWorld Sport.”

Limited entries are still available for the Footgolf. Visit
