A CALENDAR depicting scenes in an East Riding village could inspire a transatlantic fundraising effort for its village hall.

Little Weighton-based artist Pat Davison spent nine months painting scenes in the village and its neighbouring community in Rowley, and has produced a calendar that will be sold to raise funds for the hall’s 50,000 refurbishment.

She is now enlisting the help of people in Rowley, Massachusetts, which was founded after the leader of the Pilgrim Fathers left the East Riding for America in the 17th century. Ezekial Rodgers left his post as vicar of Rowley in 1638 to establish a colony in America.

Mrs Davison, 62, said: “I decided to paint some of the old buildings because I felt they were getting changed and altered and I wanted to catalogue them.

“Everything raised will go towards the village hall because they need disabled access and to refurbish it, which will cost about 50,000.

“I have written to the rector in Rowley and their historic society and got a lovely letter back from the rector, and he’s going to take it to the next parish meeting, so hopefully something will come of that.”

The 2011 calendar costs 8 and is on sale in Little Weighton Post Office.
