Calendar girls strip to fight cancer

A HARDY group of women have defied the November cold to pose for a nude calendar in aid of a Yorkshire cancer charity.

The Emma Maltby Memorial Fund was established in October 2003 to commemorate father and daughter Peter Rawson and Emma Maltby, who both died young of cancer – Mr Rawson, at 47, and Mrs Maltby, aged 38.

The fund, run by Mrs Maltby's mother Wendy Morrell and sister Jane Stevens, of Boston Spa, near Wetherby, provides two learning mentors to help provide educational support in hospital for teenagers and young adults living with cancer.

The family chose to help young adults because Mrs Maltby was badly affected by her father's death in adolescence.

The calendar was the idea of Miss January, Julie Whitmore. She arranged for professional photographer Adrian Ray to shoot models whom she knew through Tocklocks hair salon, which she runs in Tockwith, between Wetherby and York.

The calendar is priced at 8.50 and it is hoped that 21,000 will be raised through sales and sponsorship.
