Call to help shape new homes vision

THE public are being urged to help shape an ambitious vision to build 800 homes and create 1,000 jobs every year for the next two decades in York.

A city-wide consultation will begin on Monday next week on the core strategy of a planning blueprint called the Local Development Framework spanning the next 20 years.

The core strategy will set out guidelines for creating jobs and future housing needs as well as protecting the environment and developing transport links.

Once the strategy is adopted, it will formally establish York’s green belt for the first time. It also identifies a range of strategic development sites, such as York Central situated around the city’s railway station which is one of Britain’s biggest brownfield sites.

The LDF will put in place policies to protect York’s famous heritage to showcase globally renowned assets such as the Minster and Clifford’s Tower.

The consultation will run until November 7, and the core strategy will be considered by an independent inspector next year to decide if it should be adopted. More information is available at www.york.gov.uk/LDF/corestrategy or by calling 01904 551464.
