Callous thief steals purse of accident woman

A callous thief posed as a good samaritan while a woman lay stricken on the floor with bone protruding from a broken leg – before running off with her purse as paramedics arrived.

Lizzie Seetal, 50, caught her foot between two paving stones, suffering horrific breaks to her lower leg which left her on the floor in agony. A passer-by helped her collect the contents of her bag after the fall and phoned for an ambulance.

But the man who helped her then shockingly stole her purse before running off.

Miss Seetal, of Hull, said: "I was in hospital for nearly three weeks and it was only when I got my bank statement that I realised the man had spent 51 on my debit card.

"I was very angry at first and had lost faith in the human race.

"But I look back at the great work by the medics and nursing staff and that balances it out.

"I now feel pity for the man. I'm not sure how he can live with his conscience. If he can stoop so low, what a sad existence."

Miss Seetal still finds it difficult to understand why the passer-by did it.

"One minute he was a good citizen and the next he was a thief.

"Luckily, my daughter had cancelled the card the day after the accident when I realised my purse was missing or more money could have been taken. It was an awful thing to do to someone in such distress."

Miss Seetal nearly lost her foot following the accident. 'It was really lucky that an ambulance was already nearby at the time,' she said.

"Once I was at Hull Royal Infirmary, the doctors discovered my main artery was twisted and blood wasn't getting to my heart.

"They said I was two minutes away from either dying or losing my foot."

Humberside Police have confirmed they are investigating the theft. Miss Seetal was not able to describe the man and there was no closed circuit TV in the area.
