Camel faces eviction

Aviation enthusiasts building a First World War fighter plane in a West Yorkshire workshop are battling eviction.

Volunteers with the Northern Aeroplane Workshops (NAW) have been based at Alexandra Mills in Batley for 12 years, but are now faced with renegotiating their lease.

Their landlord gave them notice to move out this month, but yesterday extended the deadline to next month. The NAW may have to pay rent in future, but a spokesman said this would be preferable to moving.

The Sopwith Camel is expected to be complete and ready to fly in two to three years.
