He was last seen in the city's Princes Avenue at about 10.30pm on Saturday.

Officers have now appealed for help in identifying a man matching his description who was recorded walking from Cave Street and turning left on to Beverley Road.

Police say they are becoming increasingly concerned for Mr Spence's welfare, and officers yesterday carried out a canoe search of the River Hull, from Kingswood to its confluence with the River Humber, as part of their inquiries.

The 30-year-old's disappearance has triggered a huge response, with thousands of people joining an online group set up to help find the gas engineer.

Nearly 30,000 people have now joined a Facebook campaign to help find Mr Spence.

His distraught wife Clare, 32, who is mother to Alex, four, and 20-month-old Sam, has spoken of the family's anguish as they desperately wait for news.

Writing on Facebook she said: "Please if anyone has seen anything, even the smallest detail that you think might be silly just tell the police. We are desperate for him to come home and miss him so much."
