Campaign on to recruit foster carers

A MOTHER has become the face of a new campaign to recruit foster carers in Hull.

More than 280 fosterparents look after over 400 youngsters locally, but new recruits are always needed.

Lisa Little, 38, who has a five-year-old daughter, became a foster parent in 2009 and has already helped two little boys move on to adoptive parents. She is now fostering another two little boys. She said: "I feel much more confident after my first year of fostering. It was quite a challenge going from a family of three to a family of five overnight. The first few weeks were very, very busy but once we got into a routine it was much easier.

"I chose to foster through Hull Council's service because I kept seeing their adverts."

Jacquie Edhouse, area manager for the council's fostering service, said: "Too many people rule themselves out of being foster carers, despite being very interested in fostering.

"Our foster carers come from a whole range of backgrounds. What really matters is what you can offer a child."

The fostering team will be at St Stephens tomorrow and at Queen Victoria Square on Saturday.
