Canal boat couple win the right to stay after appeal

A couple who faced being evicted from their canal boat home by their local council because they did not have planning permission have won their fight to stay there.

Dennis Norris and his partner Andrea Gayton were due to be thrown off their moorings, despite living on Driffield Canal at Hempholme, near Brandesburton, East Yorkshire, since 2003 and paying council tax.

But they are now celebrating after winning their appeal against East Riding Council’s eviction order .
