Canal trust in appeal to help with clean-up

CANAL enthusiasts in Huddersfield are being invited to give their local waterway some care and attention.

The Canal & River Trust, which is responsible for 2,000 miles of waterways, is encouraging people to join their local Towpath Taskforce, a team of volunteers who meet to help care for Huddersfield Broad Canal.

The Taskforce will meet on Friday January 11 at Quay Street Bridge behind Sainsbury’s (HD1 6SB) to clear undergrowth and remove litter.

Lucy Dockray, volunteer leader for the Trust, said: “The Taskforce is a great opportunity to get some exercise, meet new people and really make a difference to the local environment and I hope we can get some new members along to the January activity.”
