Canalside improvements are signed off

Volunteers, civic dignitaries and representatives from a partnership project gathered yesterday to open officially improvements to an area close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Councillor Andrew Carter, leader of the Conservative group on Leeds Council was among those gathered at Wyther Lane between Kirkstall and Bramley to admire the work done by the volunteers.

This month, staff from Leeds Metropolitan University joined nearby residents to help the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) and Aire Action Leeds finish work on a small park area that has included planting spring bulbs and fruit trees, replacing car park bollards to try to reduce fly tipping and resurfacing footpaths used by cyclists, runners and walkers near the site of the old Kirkstall Brewery – now a hall of residence for some of the city’s students.
