Cancer carers to get extra support

A MAN who has lost almost a dozen of his close friends and family members to cancer has set up an organisation to help carers.

Lee Lawrence of Pontefract set up leelawrence.org cancer support, after his 62-year-old father Lee (Snr) was hit by the disease on three separate occasions.

Lee (Jnr) said: “Events are planned to raise money for the purpose of buying a caravan costing £25,000-plus which could be used to benefit approximately 28 families a year. Cancer takes its toll on not only the sufferer but also their families. We aim to alleviate the suffering just a little by ensuring a family holiday can be given to provide respite from the strains of everyday life.

“A stress-free holiday filled with fun and laughter would be extremely beneficial for all involved, and in some cases may be the last chance to have a family holiday all together.”

A fundraising event Gothika with Inkubus Sukkubus will be live at the Black Flag Venue on Smyth Street in Wakefield, at 7.30pm on Saturday August 27.

Lee says: “Everyone will be touched by cancer in their lifetime. If its yourself or someone you love or a friend, I can tell you from personal experience that it hurts.”
