Cancer survivor to play part in Race for Life musical

A GUISELEY cancer survivor is set to star alongside professional West End actors in a new mini musical.

Nicola Wardle, 41, a mother of two, who has been treated for a rare form of the disease, will be the main attraction when Race for Life’s musical production Join the Girls opens for a one-off performance at the Hyde Park Picture House, in Leeds, on Saturday, February 19.

Joining her on stage will be Heartbeat and former Coronation Street actress Nikki Sanderson, as well as a cast of performers. Join the Girls is a six-minute musical which brings to life the experience of taking part in Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Six cancer survivors, together with the cast and a celebrity guest, are taking to the stage in their home towns, to encourage as many people as possible to signs up.

Nicola said: “I hope that by sharing my experience, I’ll motivate other women across Yorkshire to enter Race for Life.”

Nicola was diagnosed with a rare gastrointestinal stromal tumour in March 2007. She had an operation but the disease returned and she had a new biological therapy, Glivec, and this shrunk her tumours. She now plans to run the Race for Life.
