Captured on camera: Man takes photo of woman as she stubs out cigarette in his eye

A MAN used his phone to photograph a woman stubbing out a lit cigarette in his eye, on a night out in Leeds city centre.

The woman was caught on camera wearing a black and white dress and holding a McDonald’s bag.

The 21-year-old victim was in agony, but managed to take the photograph a few seconds later. Doctors feared he would lose the sight in one eye after the attack last month.

His condition has since improved, but he is still undergoing hospital treatment and medics say his vision may be permanently damaged.

The incident on happened Woodhouse Lane at around 4am on Monday, May 7. Shortly beforehand, the victim and a male friend had been involved in an argument with the woman and her friend in McDonald’s on Albion Street.

The women got in a taxi afterwards, which did a U-turn before driving off along Woodhouse Lane towards Headingley.

Sgt Kevin Taylor, of City & Holbeck Police, said: “This was a very nasty and malicious act which initially left the victim facing the prospect of losing the sight in one of his eyes.

“It has only been through sheer good fortune that he has not lost his sight. He is still undergoing treatment and does not yet know if the damage done will permanently affect his vision.

“Regardless of whatever dispute led up to this incident, we cannot tolerate unprovoked violence like this on the streets of the city centre.

Sgt Taylor added; “It is vital that we trace the woman involved and I would urge anyone who recognises her to contact us immediately.”

She is described as a 5ft 6in-tall blonde-haired white woman who was wearing a black and white dress.

Anyone who can help identify the woman, or has any other information, is asked to contact PC 5547 Brammer at Holbeck police station via the non-emergency number 101.
