The driver, a 70-year-old Filey man, broke his breastbone and a rib. He was taken to Scarborough Hospital and detained for treatment. Yesterday he was in a stable condition.

The front-seat passenger, a 69-year-old Filey woman, suffered a minor head injury and was taken to the same hospital where she was also detained for treatment. She is also in a stable condition.

The collision disrupted telephone power supplies and the A614 was closed between the roundabout on the A614 near Moor Lane and Bridlington Bay Road, between 4.30pm and 7pm.

Traffic officers are urging passing motorists who saw the couple’s blue VW Golf car travelling along Bridlington Bay Road towards the A614 yesterday afternoon to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222.
