Car appeal after man shot

DETECTIVES investigating the shooting of a Sheffield man in West Yorkshire are appealing for information to trace a black Vauxhall Corsa.

The 35-year-old victim was gunned down in the area around Laycock Place, near the Leeds West Indian Centre in Chapeltown, Leeds, at around 5am on Saturday.

Eight men, seven from Sheffield and one from Leeds, have been arrested, questioned and bailed pending further inquiries, police said yesterday.

The victim, who is from the Sheffield area, remained in hospital yesterday.

His condition was described as serious but stable.

The senior investigating office, Detective Superintendent Chris Thompson, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We are looking for people to come forward with any information they may have, especially in regards to the black Corsa, which may have been in the area at the time.”

Patrols by neighbourhood policing team members have been stepped up to provide reassurance to the public.
