Car boot sellers in fake goods probe

POLICE and trading standards officers seized thousands of pounds of suspected counterfeit clothing from the Grange Moor car boot sale, near Huddersfield, on Sunday morning.

Two men were found with designer clothing from brands such as Burberry, Bench, Stone Island and Juicy Couture.

If genuine, the total value of the clothing would have been around 3,500 but because of the low price being charged for the items, officers suspected the clothing was fake.

The investigation is being handled by trading standards officers. If the goods are proved to be fakes, they will be destroyed and the sellers could face a prison sentence.

Pc Sally Baines said: "The vast majority are people legitimately selling their unwanted items so it's a shame that a very small minority are using this boot sale as an opportunity to sell counterfeit clothes to often unsuspecting buyers."
