Car company in five-year arena deal

A CAR sales company yesterday took the naming rights for one of South Yorkshire's biggest venues when bosses from the firm signed a five-year deal.

Motorpoint, which has branches in Derby, Burnley, Peterborough, Newport and Glasgow, has agreed to sponsor Sheffield Arena for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

The arena, which is operated by national venues company LiveNation, has been without a commercial partner since Sheffield-based radio station Hallam FM withdrew from a deal in 2007.

The new name was unveiled at 11am yesterday by Gary Warren, managing director of Motorpoint and Rob O'Shea, general manager of the Sheffield Arena.

Sheffield Council's cabinet member for culture, sport and tourism, Coun Roger Davidson, also attended the event.
