Car park customers can pay by phone

A new scheme allowing people to pay by phone across Doncaster’s town centre car parks is due to be launched today.

Doncaster Council is adopting the “RingGo” scheme which means drivers can park without the need to have the correct change.

Customers can pay via a simple phone app at all local authority car parks and metered street parking within the town centre.

Coun Bill Mordue, Doncaster Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “With this RingGo scheme it will never have been easier for people to park in the town centre. We hope it will encourage more people into Doncaster, therefore improving trading.

“The RingGo scheme will not replace the coin system; this will still be in use – it is just designed to give people extra options.”

The pay by phone scheme will be fully administered by RingGo and there is no cost to the council.

Parking attendants know if someone has paid from their hand-held devices. People use the app for an extra convenience fee of 20p each time they come to park. The council will look to reduce the number of pay and display machines.
