‘Carbon Quids’ drive to cut car use

COMMUTERS using Sheffield’s heavily congested Ecclesall Road are being encouraged to choose eco-friendly transport options through a new “Carbon Quids” scheme.

People opting to walk, cycle, take the bus or car share on and around Ecclesall Road will earn Carbon Quids for their journeys, which can then be redeemed in shops, cafes and restaurants in the area.

From this week, people can sign up at the website www.carbonquids.info, record their journeys, and start collecting points. They will then receive a reward card that gives them discounts with local businesses.

A spokesman for Sheffield Council said: “Businesses where people can redeem their Carbon Quids include Endcliffe Park Cafe, Little Gems, Beauty Care Salon, Flora, Cuts of Class, and Rhyme and Reason.

“The scheme benefits local businesses by drawing customers into their shop, bar or restaurant to redeem their rewards.”

Christine Parker, owner of Cuts of Class, added: “It’s a great idea and we are more than happy to provide the offers to local people, particularly as it contributes to helping the environment.”
