Care charges may go up

Older people and the disabled in Leeds could have to pay more for home and day care charges.

Councillors will be asked to approve plans to revise charges at their executive board meeting next week. If they agree 22 per cent of users would pay more.

The changes would generate an extra £850,000 for cash-strapped Leeds Council which is facing budget cutbacks. The hourly rate for home care would increase from £9.60 to £13.

Those who get free care would still not have to pay.
