Care home attack sparks security check

A 94-year-old woman who was attacked by a suspected burglar at a Bradford residential care home remained in hospital yesterday.

The pensioner, who suffered serious head injuries during the attack by the intruder, was in a stable condition.

As police continued their investigation yesterday, care home bosses said they will be reviewing security at the Rosewood Court care home in Shakespeare Close, Barkerend.

Liz Whyte, area manager for Southern Cross Healthcare, which owns the home, said: "We will be working with the police to conduct a full review of security and any recommendations on how security can be improved will be actively put into place by the home.

"The staff and management at the home are providing constant reassurance to the residents and we are doing everything we can to minimise any distress caused by the incident. "

Detectives believe the woman was assaulted in the bathroom of her ground-floor room on Friday.
