Care urged for football derby fans

With Hull flying high near the top of the Championship table and Leeds pushing for a play off place, a near capacity crowd is expected.

The game kicks off at 12.30pm, and police are urging both home and away fans to get to the KC Stadium early to avoid disapointment if parking spaces are full. The city centre is expected to be busy with shoppers enjoying the Christmas sales, so traffic may be busier than normal.

Operations commander for the local derby match, Chief Inspector Rich Kirven, said: “Please 
allow sufficient time to travel to the ground and park somewhere safe.

“For people who are using their own vehicles to go to the match, the park and ride schemes would save on time and stress.”

Police are advising fans to park in a well-lit area and make sure vehicles are locked when left unattended for any period of time.

Sat-navs and their holders should be removed from view, as should anything else that is valuable.

Police are also urging motorists to invest in security devices such as steering wheel or gear stick locks.

They are asking anyone who sees any suspicious behaviour to contact Humberside Police on 101, or if they see a crime in progress to dial 999.
