Carers needn’t be alone

ISOLATED carers can now access a wealth of online support and meet other carers through The Princess Royal Trust for Carers’ redesigned website.

Carers.org surveyed its online community of adult, unpaid carers to find out about their experiences of isolation, revealing that nearly one in nine carers (86.7 per cent) find it difficult to leave their home because of their role and more than half (53.2 per cent) feel isolated.

The online survey of 400 who care for a sick or disabled family member found 86.7 per cent of carers surveyed are left without enough support from family or friends, while nearly half (46 per cent) have no free time to visit support services.

Over three-quarters (76 per cent) do not receive any respite from social services so they can have a regular break from caring, while over one in three (36.5 per cent) are unaware they are even entitled to breaks.
