Caribbean flavour to food festival

Celebrity chef and Dragon's Den star Levi Roots was in Sheffield yesterday as the city's first-ever food festival was launched.

The cook, best known for his Reggae Reggae Sauce, was at the Tesco store in Abbeydale Road to launch his new range of chilled Caribbean meals, where he met Jo Huckstepp of Norton, Sheffield.

He will also be giving a cookery demonstration in the Peace Gardens at 6.30pm today as part of the Sheffield Food Festival.

The chef said: "This is a city that knows how to throw a good party, so come along and enjoy great food, chill-out tunes and good times."

The Sheffield Food Festival was launched last night at Platillos restaurant in Leopold Square and events are set to continue throughout this week.

A producers market, restaurant stalls and cookery classes will be running in the Peace Gardens, which will be the "festival hub", every day until Saturday.

Aspiring gardeners will be able to visit a "Grow Your Own Zone" in the Winter Garden each day, which also includes activities for children such as pizza making classes and cupcake decorating workshops.

Events will also be running in Broomhill, Endcliffe Park, Upperthorpe, Parson Cross Park and Heeley City Farm.
