Carnage as elderly queue for benefits

Iraqi security forces inspected a crater caused by a car bomb attack west of Baghdad yesterday, which killed 17 people and wounded at least 23 others.

Officials said a suicide bomber blew up his car outside government offices in Ramadi, Anbar province's capital 70 miles from Baghdad. Women and elderly people queuing to collect welfare payments were among the victims. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to brief the media.
