Carol boost for Mayor's charity fund

A CONCERT of carols, celebrity readings and music is being held next Thursday as part of Christmas festivities taking place in Hull.

The Celebrity Carol Concert, hosted by the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull Councillor David Gemmell, takes place in the atmospheric setting of the Banqueting Hall in the Guildhall on Thursday December 2.

The concert will feature the Hymers College choirs and brass band, as well as Christmas readings from Caroline Bilton from the BBC's Look North, Brookside actor Dean Sullivan, playwright Jane Thornton and Martha Godber.

There will also be video recordings of local actress Eleanor Tomlinson and the late television writer Alan Plater.

Doors open at 7pm and the concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost 20 for premier seating and 15 for standard seating.

The price includes mulled wine or soft drinks upon arrival and drinks and mince pies after the concert.

Tickets are available from the Lord Mayor's Office by calling Hull 615093. All proceeds will go to the Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal Fund which this year benefits the Alzheimer's Research Trust and Parkinson's UK.
