Case study 2: In fear of tough times ahead

Nicola Willey, 34, and partner Glyn Slinger, 39, run Red House Farm Cottages, near Beverley.

"We took over the business two years ago, we have six cottages and are just trying to get going," she said.

"This is going to have a bad effect on us, we are going to struggle.

"We have got real worries for the year ahead and a lot of people are in the same boat.

"We are in a bit of a panic about what this will do to us.

"It is very complicated, there has been no consultation, and we feel there is no guidance from the government at all.

"I moved from Bradford to work here and it has been great, we love the countryside and it felt like a dream job.

"But now it is just a waiting game.

"There are tough times ahead and they need to give us some help."
