Casey murder accused set to go on trial in July

A WOMAN accused of stabbing a teenage girl to death in a Yorkshire park last week will go on trial later this year, a judge ruled yesterday.

Hannah Bonser, 26, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court via videolink from Newhall Prison, near Wakefield, where she is currently being held.

Bonser, of Cusworth House, Doncaster, is accused of murdering Casey Kearney, 13, of Rossington, Doncaster, in the town’s Elmfield Park on Valentine’s Day.

Casey left her home at luncthime on Tuesday, February 14 and caught the bus to Doncaster, where she intended to meet a friend, but she never arrived and was found collapsed at around 1.15pm. The Macauley Catholic High School pupil was found stabbed in the park and taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary after dialling 999 from her mobile phone.

She died a few hours later in intensive care.

Bonser, who was wearing a grey sweatshirt and glasses and spoke only to confirm her name, is also charged with the possession of two knives.

After a five minute hearing, she was remanded in custody and told a provisional trial date had been fixed for July 2.

She will appear next at Sheffield Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on May 10.
