Cash on offer for multi-faith areas

Bradford is to benefit from cash for multi faith areas.

The Government has awarded the Church Urban Fund (CUF) £5m to promote interaction in communities through a new project called Near Neighbours.

The three-year project will focus on Bradford and Burnley, Leicester, East London (north and south) and Birmingham (north and east).

In Bradford it will be run by Bradford Centre for Dialogue and Diversity (BCDD).

Dr Helen Reid, BCDD programme director, said: “We’re really hopeful that this project will have a very positive impact at a grassroots level. For example, it could be as simple as encouraging individuals who’ve never met a person of a different faith or culture to get together.”

Near Neighbours aims to bring people together in diverse communities, helping them to work on schemes to improve their local community. People of different faiths will be able to bid for funding with parish churches for grants of up to £5,000.
