Castle celebrates horse heritage

Bolsover Castle was once home to one of the finest riding schools in England.

Now the castle plans to celebrate its special equestrian heritage with the opening of a new exhibition and discovery centre this weekend.

Part of the English Heritage restoration of the castle and Riding House, the new exhibition will tell the building’s history and particularly the life of William Cavendish, first Duke of Newcastle.

Cavendish was known as a master horseman and wrote books on the art of manège, an early form of dressage.

Further jousting events are planned for May.
