‘Casual jogger’ takes on six-hill run

A BANK worker who describes himself as a “casual jogger” is preparing to run almost 50 miles in a day by completing Yorkshire’s Three Peak challenge twice.

Will Shaw, 33, is hoping to complete two loops of the famous route which takes in the Dales peaks of Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. He hopes to complete it on September 7 in under 12 hours – the target that walkers normally set themselves to complete just one loop.

Mr Shaw, of Rodley in Leeds, has set himself a target of £1,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in memory of his sister Beccy who died, aged 10, from leukaemia in 1984.

Although he calls himself a part-time jogger, in recent weeks Mr Shaw has been training hard and recent ran a single loop of the Three Peaks and then another peak for good measure.

“I am going to run most of the flat bits and eat and drink on the ascents and descents,” he said. “My fiancé Katie Richardson is walking the Three Peaks on the same day, raising money with colleagues from St James’s Hospital for Cancer Research UK.”
