Cathedral has date with the Phantom

THE golden age of Hollywood will be brought to one of Yorkshire's cathedrals when a classic version of The Phantom of the Opera is screened next week.

David Briggs, who is one of the world's most renowned organ virtuosos, will play Ripon Cathedral's Harrison and Harrison organ to provide an improvised musical score to Lon Chaney's 1925 film when it is shown on Tuesday next week.

The cathedral's assistant director of music, Edmund Aldhouse, said: "All the music is improvised on the spur of the moment, so the exciting music played in Ripon will be unique and never heard anywhere else."
