Caught on camera: Knifeman holds up Harrogate bookmaker

DETECTIVES have appealed for the public's help in identifying this knifeman who held up a bookmaker's shop in Harrogate on Tuesday night.

The man entered Coral's branch on Knaresborough Road at 9pm. He threatened staff with the knife and demanded money before making off down Birstwith Drive and on to Lynton Gardens with the cash.

The offender, who spoke with a Liverpool accent, is described as white, between 5'8 and 5'10 tall with a slim build. He was wearing a navy blue zip-up jacket with a thin white stripe across the front and blue jeans. His face was covered with what appeared to be a modified piece of dark clothing.

Detective Constable Jane Lang-Burns, of Harrogate CID, said: "We are appealing to the public to help us trace this man.

"We request that anyone living in the area be alert to the possibility that the clothing or the knife used in the robbery may have been abandoned in the area. If you find anything suspicious please contact Harrogate police immediately.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw anyone acting in a suspicious manner."
