Cavendish rides again for historical event

The life of one of the 17th century’s most colourful aristocrats will be celebrated this weekend.

William Cavendish, the first Duke of Newcastle, inherited Bolsover Castle from his father in 1617, and made it the centre of what is now called dressage.

Horseman Ben Atkinson is seen above preparing with Almonso in the Riding House at the castle where experts from across the world will gather on Saturday and Sunday, to take part in academic debate and host family events.

Spokeswoman Lucy Hutchings said: “We will mix family entertainment with presentations from international experts in their field.”
