CCTV images shows armed gang's raid on jeweller's

Detectives hunting a gang of armed robbers who targeted a Bradford jewellery store have released a CCTV image of the terrifying raid.

The four masked men raided Shaandar Zewar Jewellers in Maidstone Street in the Barkerend area of the city after a stolen Ford Focus car was reversed into the front display window of the shop.

The robbers, who were wearing balaclavas, got into the shop through the damaged window and stole what is described as a "substantial quantity" of jewellery in the raid at 11am on Monday last week.

Two of the men were believed to be carrying firearms but no shots were fired.

The robbers fled in a waiting car – a black Volkswagen Golf GTI, with the registration number: MJ 55 YBT.

The getaway car was found burnt out in Bullroyd Avenue a short time later. Police said that both vehicles used in the robbery were stolen.

Detective Inspector Ian Bryar released the CCTV image showing the robbers in the shop and is appealing to anyone who has not yet come forward with information to contact police.

As one of the gang removes jewellery from inside display cabinets another man can be seen with what appears to be a weapon.

Det Insp Ian Bryar who is leading the investigation, has said: "Fortunately no-one was injured during this robbery but the shopkeeper and his assistant have been left very shaken by the incident. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact me or anyone who saw the black VW Golf being driven afterwards."

Police are also urging people to come forward with information through an appeal on YouTube.

As part of the investigation police officers patrolled the area yesterday, stopping vehicles and questioning people.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or who has information is asked to contact DI Bryar at Bradford South CID on 0845 6060606 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
