Celebrity chef back in his home town for TV show

Chef Marco Pierre White brought his mobile kitchen to Leeds yesterday, looking for cooks for his new TV show.

The Leeds-born chef is auditioning restaurateurs from around the country in his mobile kitchen and yesterday called on the city’s shoppers to stop by to show their support.

His mobile kitchen, will also be on Briggate, in Leeds city centre this morning, from 9am to 12.45pm and shoppers are urged to stop by and get involved.

They might even get a chance to help out tasting the food.

The series will air this summer on Channel 5 where the enfant terrible chef will use his culinary eye to sort through hundreds of couples in one of the country’s biggest ever cooking competitions.

Starting on the streets of Britain with the Kitchen Wars’ mobile kitchen, it will build to a studio finale.

The victor will be chosen from couples who run restaurants from across the breadth of the UK; from cafes to curry houses, from gastro pubs to greasy spoons.

Marco Pierre White, who grew up in an East Leeds council house, told the Yorkshire Post: “This is a very exciting new programme for me to be involved with because although I’ve been a chef, run restaurants and taught all manner of people how to cook, this is the first time I’ll be judging professional restaurateurs.”
