Sponsored by Nigel Brown, who runs a cookery academy in Goxhill, North Lincolnshire, the event is being staged to fund productions and the theatre’s educational and outreach work.

Admission to the demonstrations, which will also feature Mr Brown, costs 20, although access to the main festival is free.

Mr Martin said: “I am very fortunate as my work takes me to some amazing places around the world, but there is still nothing I like more than going back to my roots in Yorkshire.

“It is always nice to visit the region and Hull Truck’s event is particularly exciting for me as it gives the opportunity to promote local produce, something which I am passionate about.

“During my demonstrations, I will show how people at home can create delicious food using simple ingredients.”

The festival will run from noon to 6pm, with demonstrations at 1.30pm, 4pm and 6.30pm.
